What's in The Ceremonial Set

The Ceremonial Set brings together the Japanese Matcha Tea Set and Ceremonial Grade Matcha in one order — the complete setup for traditional matcha preparation at home.

The Japanese Matcha Tea Set contains four handcrafted pieces:

  • Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Chasen) — 100 prongs, handmade. Creates the fine, even froth that defines well-prepared matcha. The single most important tool in the setup.
  • Bamboo Scoop (Chashaku) — the traditional measuring tool. One level scoop per serving keeps the powder-to-water ratio consistent every time.
  • Ceramic Bowl (Chawan) — wide-based for unrestricted whisking. Gives the wrist the range of motion the W or M whisking motion requires, producing better froth and a smoother result.
  • Ceramic Whisk Stand (Kusenaoshi) — stores the chasen in its natural curved position between uses, preserving the prong shape and extending the whisk's life.

Ceremonial Grade Matcha — What to Expect

Ceremonial Grade Matcha is shade-grown and stone-ground to the standard the name should represent — a quality that many products using the same label do not actually meet.

What makes it different from everyday drinking matcha:

  • Shade growing — covered for 3–4 weeks before harvest, which increases chlorophyll (vivid green colour) and L-theanine (smooth, sweet, umami-rich flavour)
  • Stone grinding — slow, low-temperature grinding that preserves the aromatic compounds responsible for ceremonial flavour complexity
  • The result in the cup — deep natural sweetness, rich full-bodied umami, a silky texture, and a long, clean finish

Best prepared with warm water (70–80°C) and drunk plain — though exceptional in lattes too.

Who The Ceremonial Set Is For

The Ceremonial Set suits two types of buyer:

  • Setting up properly — for anyone who wants to do ceremonial matcha correctly from the start, with the right tools and the right grade, without buying pieces separately
  • As a gift — a complete and considered set that takes someone directly into the full ceremonial matcha experience, with everything they need included

If you are coming from the Beginner's Set or from Daily Grade Matcha, The Ceremonial Set is the natural step up — the same correct tools, with a grade that rewards them more fully.

How to Prepare Ceremonial Matcha

  1. Warm the ceramic bowl with a small pour of hot water, then discard
  2. Measure approximately 2g (one level bamboo scoop) of Ceremonial Grade Matcha into the warmed bowl
  3. Add 70–80ml of water at 70–80°C — not boiling
  4. Whisk in a brisk W or M motion for 20–30 seconds, keeping the chasen near the surface
  5. Drink directly from the bowl while the froth is intact
